About This Course

This course aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to carry out First Aid to casualties, encompassing a variety conditions or injures. This course offers a practical, hands on approach to the provision of First Aid improving patient outcomes.

Attendees

The course is designed to equip workers providing first aid response care in line with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines. Occupational titles may include Emergency Medical Responder, Workplace First Responder or Emergency Response Team Members.

Workshop Content

  • Comply with the Australia Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines

  • First aid procedures for the treatment of medical conditions

  • Pain management

  • Principles of First Aid

  • Overview of medications

  • Movement of the sick or injured

  • Communication procedures in emergency situations

  • Follow the Five Point Plan

  • Adult and infant CPR techniques

  • Prepare resuscitation equipment (iGel)

  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Maintain and rectify minor equipment faults

  • First aid procedures for the treatment of injuries

  • Advanced emergency medical first response

  • Basic anatomy and physiology

  • Ambulance familiarisation

  • Set up of an oxygen delivery system

  • Administer oxygen

  • Emergency Childbirth

Duration

6 month allocation to complete 9 units of study (Includes: 6 online units via external self-paced study)

Pre-requisites

No skill pre-requisites are required for this course. Participants are required to complete the course pre-reading online hand hygiene module prior to the course plus post course assessments

Assessment

Students will be required to complete practical and theory assessments to demonstrate competence during the face to face.

Students will be required to complete online knowledge units to complete the certification.

Certification

Successful students will receive the following nationally recognised qualifications:

  • HLT21020 Certificate II in Medical Service First Response (Issued upon successful completion of all units)
